Since we're in the same time zone now, I'll be the first to answer! LOL. No, I have never considered changing careers. I'm a NICU RN and I love it (most of the time.) RN's are in high demand, so I'm never worried about losing my job. I make a good salary for working 2-3 days a week and my schedule is flexible. I've thought about changing the area I work in, but after trying a different area, I've decided to stay put. I've been in the NICU field for 18 years now.
Yes-- I am still trying to figure out what to do with my life! I enjoyed my career in publishing, but quit after second child was born to be SAHM. I don't know if that is something I want to go back to; I sometimes consider going back to school to become some kind of a counselor; friends are always telling me I should be a counselor... DH wants me to get my real estate license and come to work for him (I do some work for him now), but I have reservations about working with him that much!
I feel like there are a lot of options out there for me, but I don't know which direction I want to go!
I think about it all the time but I'm not sure to what and what could pay me as much as I make now. The problem with getting further into your career is you have a salary and benefits usually that make it very difficult to just leave it and start over. I work for the Canadian government in international trade and I like the fact that we get to work abroad but being a single mom makes that more difficult. I always wanted to be a travel agent but I'm sure the reality is pretty boring. I'd like to do something in the training field, maybe that chance will come up here. We shall see. But I'm not really sure what I want to be when I grow up. :-)
I used to work in records management in a university archives. The pay was really good but I could NOT stand working in that field. I get antsy just thinking about it. So I went back to school and am working on my PhD in history. When I decided to do that, I was engaged to be married and lived with my daughter's father. But then we split up and I'd have to say it hasn't been easy doing this on my own. Other students at this level study all day and can pick up and go to conferences and research trips whenever, but I can't, and I have to stop at 3:00 every day to pick up my kids.
Two weeks ago I wrote and passed my qualifying exams. Many people drop out because they can't deal with the pressure, or they keep asking for more time but I feel very proud that I passed 3 exams that were each 4 hours long and a 2 hour oral exam even though I had a limited amount of time to prepare. I'm not done yet - still have to write a thesis - but I am VERY happy that I made this decision. Its not a decision that most would make, especially with two young kids, but I'm kind of odd and feel so happy that I get to spend the rest of my life doing what I love.
As a nicu mom, thanks for the work you do! Not everyone is cut out for it I am sure and it was a huge blessing to know that the nurses were there when I couldn't be. (((hugs)))

Good Monday Morning everyone!!

Well, if I could be a published author, then sure!

I already have.
