i was thinking about this morning. Every time jackie has to take a shower in the morning its an hour and half before she gets out. so if i get up and get moving early to get her up early enough to take the long shower im still hollering at her to get out.......i bang on the wall nicely to let her know not much longer. I then yell from the kitchen to get her out. then if i have to go into the bathroom i ask nicely then i go back and just yell. Its a never ending battle....its not fair.......then i start asking myself what is she learning from this and how can i improve this situation..... then i tell her no more showers in the morning...... does not eliminate the lateness its still there with get out of bed..... never an end.
I do increase my volume a little but there's no anger in it. Our house is pretty small so all I have to do is stand at the bottom of the stairs and say up that it's time to go. I usually do walk upstairs 5 minutes to go and say, "time check, 5 minutes". That's there signal to "hustle their bustle" and get their things together. They know their in trouble time wise when I say "It's time to go. I'll meet you in the car". I try my best to have them lay out their clothes and pack up backpacks the night before. This seems to help my dd (7) a lot. I do lunches in the morning and leave them at their place at the kitchen table so they can grab them on their way out. Evan was actually ready a little early this morning so he helped me with lunches (no grumbling either :) ).
I'd get one heck of an aerobic workout if I had to go upstairs and quietly tell my DD each time she needed a nudge! I just call up the stairs and tell her the time every 10 minutes or so. (Yes, she does have a clock in her room, but she also has some type of selective blindness that prevents her from actually reading the numbers on it ;}
I cannot wait until next September, when my son starts middle school and will have to catch the same bus. He is always up on time and never needs prodding, so maybe he can help her get moving.

Good morning, Dee!
I saw this on Raising a Girl, but I'll answer you here.
I sometimes have to raise my voice if Sherina is not listening or ignoring me

I have to constantly remind my kids of the time :).
Mine are 10 and 8.
I tell them at 30 minutes out "30 minutes....you should be eating"
Then "20 minutes....you should be dressing!"
Then "10 minutes....you should be brushing"
Then I yell.
:)
