Robert and I usually go by the ratings and the content shown in the previews. That will usually give us enough information to make our judgement. If we're still unsure, we'll talk to other parents who've seen the movie. If all else fails, and we're sure that Sean would like the movie but not sure of the content and whether or not he can handle it - we'll go ourselves and watch it first. We've only done that once or twice though, usually we could get reliable information from others if the previews didn't tell us enough.

Best Always,

I go to screenit.com, which lists all the 'bad stuff', so I know what we'll be up against. Invaluable site. I don't always agree with their critiques, but their content information is always very accurate.

Thanks for the tip. I'd never heard of it, but I'll be checking it out in a couple minutes. I'm not worried about the critiques either, I can form my own opinions - I need to know what to expect in the movie.

Best Always,

I won't let my 11 yo dd see anything rated more than PG before I check it out on Screen It. This website is invaluable in my house. I just wish the video store would have a terminal there so I could check movies out right then!

I checked out that site. What a great place, I was so impressed with the information provided!! I know I'll be using that the next time we're trying to decide if a movie is okay.

I have a "nothing beyond PG" policy for now. Thanks for the screenit recommendation. Now, when the kids want to see PG-13, I'll know why it's rated that way. Even for PG, I still consider the content and the previews before agreeing to it. If I'm uncertain, I'll ask around to find out who has seen it.

Great question!
