Need suggestions: movie for 10 yo bd pty

My ds will be 10 on the 25th and wants to have a party where we take a handful of friends to a cheap dinner and then to the movies. Are there any movies out there you think might be appropriate? He wasn't so sure about Happy Feet (too "babyish") and I wasn't so sure the parents would appreciate Flushed Away (too much crude humor) and the whole premise kind of bothers me. There will be a mix of boys and girls and they're 4th graders. I don't mind PG movies but no PG-13.

I could use advice on something else too. He really wants to have an evening party - we're looking at Friday 11/17 right now but have to decide fast if so - and I'm thinking that might be pushing the envelope a little. If he was 12 or 13 I'd think it a little more appropriate. The 17th would be fun because they get the whole week of Thanksgiving off and it would be a fun way to kick off the vacation. We also wouldn't have to worry about people being out of town.

Help, I'm just plain confused. I'm new at this tween stuff.

What about Santa Clause 3? It should be out by then. Do you think they will like that?

Here is a website with a good guide to movies: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/
You might want to think about having it at home, then you can rent a movie, serve pizza and what ever snacks you want and you know the movie will be what you expect. You could rent 2 or 3 movies that you deem appropriate and let the kids chose as well.
I hope your son has a happy birthday.

I would LOVE to do that but there are kids whose parents might be offended and/or tell them they couldn't come because they practice other religions. I'm soooo not looking forward to the holidays this year. :( Can't say Merry Christmas or mention Santa Clause and church is very much a "let's remember what Christmas is all about" type atmosphere. I'm not wanting to be the Griswalds or anything, just wanting to bake a few cookies, put up a few decorations and feel comfortable... I could go on and on but that's another post.

We do the rent a movie and dinner thing with DS when he turned 11 - we watched Harry Potter #1 and served foods from the movie - the kids had a great time....especially getting sorted before the movie started so they could sit at their "tables". It was a great evening thing. We started it at 6 and went until 10... Not only is it a bit cheaper, you can decorate/ theme it to ANY movie.

If you are really wanting to go out.... Open Season is really cute, Flushed away seems the same type of humor found in Shrek, and Santa Claus 3 of course will be wonderful. (At least for me.) Deck the Halls comes out on the 22nd if that helps?

What about a pirate movie? Or Garfield - he's not offensive and still cool when you're 10...
