To neuter or not

My Pug Otis is now 4 1/2 months old. I've always spayed or neutered my animals. I had no idea DH was really against it. We have an un-altered male Chow that stays outside. He was his dog before we got married, so I had no choice in that matter. My DH sees no reason to fix the dog. I don't want to breed him, but DH says we should keep that open as an option.
I guess he just thinks it's cruel and not necessary. Otis would never get out more than likely because he's an indoor dog. But, I think he should be fixed. I've done all the research about the pros and cons of it all.
So I was curious if any of you have an un-altered dog, or if you've been able to compare one to an altered one that you've owned.
Any info would help...thanks

Kim

its really a personal choice i have been around my parents dog for over 12yrs now. they did not to him. I did to my dog but that was because he thought he was more dominate than i was. And some other issues that is neither here nor there. but its just a choice.

Not a dog person so take this for what i is worth.I have a male cat,so he definatly is nutured,no question abou it.I think I would nuter sooner rather than later though. We had friends who ended up having to get their dog nutered at 7 or 8 not sure of the reason, but her dh was like your dh and he would not nuter a male.Just curious how would he feel about spayed a female.Plus isn't it just as cruel to not nuterer him then never to let him "reproduce".Like I said though I am all for nutering, there are too many unwanted pets out there and what if he did get out by accident. Our cat is a house cat,but he did sneak ou on uus a few times. He is nutured so he does not have the urge to roam, nor does he spray.I do think health wise i is better to nuter though.

I in the favor of. Its a guy thing, they see losing their parts as losing their masculinity. They don't like any males to lose their parts, they relate too much. Unless he is some kind of high class breed, you are not going to breed him for money, people want the high end show dogs for that and really, do we need more pug crosses in the world? Not likely. The dog won't know or care. Its not like he KNOWS he's going to have a use for those some day and I've heard some dogs can be more agressive. So for me its a non-issue unless you are a breeder and your DH needs to get over relating to closely to his pets. ;-)

I think if you have an inside dog that won't get out even accidently and make puppies that you don't want--then that is fine.
