That had to be tough, but you definitely get some applause for taking the high road.

I was just at my ds11's middle school today, helping with library inventory. The FACS teacher was brainstorming with another teacher on how to judge and score some cakes the kids were creating for an end of the year fun project. I REALLY liked what the 2nd teacher recommended; she said have each 'judge' judge ONE aspect of EACH project, so that it can be a fairly graded project. Such as one does color for every cake, one does neatness, one does 'what was your theme and does the cake adequately exhibit this?', etc. I forget what she called it, but it was a type of system that then each judge would provide points for only their category, and then the class teacher would add each judge's points up for each group, and that'd be their bottom line score. I thought that was wonderful - perhaps you could suggest that to the teacher for next year...or if you ever have to do that again for whatever type of competition/grading.

I don't understnd, WHY are parents giving grades!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????? Parents are way to intimately realted to the kids! I would never allow my kids' work to be graded by some of the dunderheads that are around here. I volunteer at school all the time, and never heard of this practice. Sorry to rant, but it just seems so wrong!

It's the first time I've heard of it but it's the first time I had a sixth grader so I don't know what they did last year.

I think that is a great idea. I'll remember that for the next time.
