Hi. I'm Diana and Preteen is 11 years old. He dislikes school, even though that's the school he begged me to sign him up for. We even went to the early open house to fill out the application. He's moody sometimes and refuses to clean up the room and get a decent hair cut. Trust me some people think I have 2 daughters instead of 1. It's embarrassing sometimes. I still have 2 other boys that are a way from being 11, but is this what I have to look forward to? This will be my first teen and I am sooo not ready, lol.

Welcome, this is a great board with lots of advice. All those things you said about your 11 year old are so typical. They think they want something then its not all they imagined so they don't like it, the hormones are swinging, they're trying to assert their independence ... ARRGGHHH!!! :-) Its great to know we're not alone though.

I have one DD Kristen who will be 12 in May. So far I must say its been pretty good except for the occassional moment so I can't complain, but I'm sure I will sooner or later. :-) Just hop in anywhere on any of the threads and you'll soon get to know us all. The coffee break thread is a good way to see what everyone is up to at a glance. Have a great weekend.

Hi Diana - my name is Ami and I have a 10 yo ds (Evan) and a 6 yo dd (Megan). I just joined the board a few months ago and it's a GREAT place. The ups and downs of life are here along with plenty of empathy and comic relief!

My ds is a pretty young 10 so we haven't run into some of the things you have but from reading other posts what you're going through sounds pretty typical. I swear my ds would brush his teeth maybe once a week if I didn't remind him. His room, don't even go there. He throws a fit when we ask him to clean it but really likes the way it looks once it's done. I've had luck with a timer promising we would stop in 15 minutes. It's amazing what he can get done. When he knows there's an end to it when the timer goes off things are much smoother. The other thing I've done is put a bunch of tasks on slips of paper and we took turns picking one and we ALL do the tasks in our bedrooms at the same time.

Jump right in. New comers are quickly drawn into the fold. The coffee break thread is a great way to learn about people and the dyk (did you know) thread provides lots of insight into our lives, passions, and families.

Welcome aboard!

To the board and to the wonderful world of preteens, LOL!

I am Laura, a Community Leader here and also a full time college student & SAHM to Emily 13, Jordan 8 and Carys 3 1/2 and we are in IL!

Ya know I think it is a HUGE and common misconception that only pre-teen/teen girls are moody!
