New Fruit night at our house

I bought two new fruits at the grocery store. Exotic fruits from Columbia. The store had them labelled wrong but we managed to find out what they are on the net. We got this one:

Pitaya (Acanthosereus Triangularis Pitahaya)

Its called the Pitaya. The oval shaped, yellowy orange Pitaya is a cousin of the prickly pear.
Its golden skin and delicately sweet, refreshing taste crown it as the king of cacti. Its skin is riddled with spiny clusters which are removed during harvest.
The Pitayas translucent white flesh contains a multitude of tiny dark seeds that aid digestion.
Delectable when eaten chilled on its own, the Pitaya also blends perfectly into desserts and cocktails.

I found it very sweet but not with much flavour on its own. Alot like a kiwi but less flavourful but very sweet. You have to like the little seeds. Kristen liked it alot.

The other one is more questionable.

Sweet Granadilla (Passiflora Liguralis Jussieu)

It is the sweet Granadilla and is related to the passion fruit. To be honest when we looked up the name we were concerned because they were selling it as a Loquat and it was nothing like the description. LOL This one is hard to take at first because its this clear gelatinous mass of seeds, kind of like a pomegranite but more mushy. Also looks like frogs eggs. LOL

Wow. That dragon fruit looks amazing. Even if it tastes hideous, it will be fun just to try it. I'm going to track one of those down for my son who is obsessed with dragons and is also a really picky eater. He loves mangoes and pineapple, but none of the really cheap fruit...

lol,we do that occasionally too. I love to try new fruits and the girls always cue up for a taste. So far, I haven't really found anything that I've fallen in love with which is probably best since they are all so expensive. I did like the star fruit though. It was good but not something that I have to have again. That dragon fruit looks cool but I'm not sure if I could get the girls to try that granadilla, lol. Looks like you'd have to be very brave to take that first bite, lol

sounds fun....... we are very careful about trying new things Jackie is allergic to certain fruits and can not have it...... the reactions are really bad for her..... but congrats to a new tradition in your family.

i am sure some playing around with the fruits can be alot of fun.
