we always started before Labor Day in Louisiana. When I was in first grade, my mom was pregnant (my only sibling), and I thought she was going to have her baby on Labor Day..lol. Anyway, I remember her driving me to school the week before, probably the Friday, and telling me that we'd have the day off on Monday for Labor Day.
