DYK Thread for October

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

It wouldn't be so bad, if we were allowed to keep the phones with us when it's test time.

But, they've had problems with cheating.

I think what I just posted in the H1N1 thread is going to be very controversial, and I don't want to start a debate

Oh well. . .

I am SO not understanding why this is a hot button issue!

Yes, my school does the same thing with exams, and I have to admit I feel insulted, LOL

I'm like: This is a freaking Master's Program, if you're going to cheat, you shouldn't have been admitted!

It makes me feel like a little kid

I'm having a hard time with the rules and regs, having been out of school so long and a mom and everything

I feel like they treat us like children

I keep my phone in the pocket of my hoodie, LOL

They don't even know it's there :P

Oh, and join the club. . . I don't think I did very well on my exam today either!! :(

What grade is your daughter in.Gabby is in 8th and she is Alg this year. She is considered advanced. One problem I kind of have with her being in an anvanced class, especially for the math since it is cummulative, plus math does not come as easily to her,Is hat the teacher tends to tell them they are advanced and she does not explain a lot in the chapter unless they speak upand say they don't undersatand some thing. She did tellallof us at open house she does Not go over everything that will be on the test, nor does she give homework on it but if they don't ask she jsut assumes they understand. Not sure I agree with taht because although Gabby does get math the first time someone explains it o her she really can not figure it out on her own just from the book.Tha said Gabby does have an A- in alg,but she pretyyy much gets bs on every test. She just participates and she is good at projects and she does home work.Hopefully the teacher will get back to you and you can figure out what to do to help your dd.Math is the one thing if don't get it one year the next year will be just as bad.

Thye also track in our school. They actually track for everything >They actually doit by test scores.Plus Gabby is in GATE so she is atomatically in all advanced classes. But there are kids who are just in advanced Alg and some of the kids in her grade are actually taking geometry.I do think that one of the problems with a lot of advanced kids is that they are kind of used to getting the A'swithout a lot of effort so when they have to put some effort in they are not pleased. At least that seems to be Gabby'sbeefwith 8th grade.
