okay the last two days...

have just plain STUNK!!! Beware, shameful play for sympathy to follow. DS woke up with a fever (101) yesterday and I had to serve lunch at the kids school. When I dropped dd off I went to tell ds's teacher that he wouldn't be there and get homework. She gave me one or two things. When I went to serve lunch I ran into his gifted reading teacher and she told me something else he should be doing and I needed to get it from his classroom so I went back up to get it. On the way out of school but off school property, there was a patch of ice buried under 2 inches of snow and I fell and screwed up my knee. I was able to walk away but there are still issues (more later). When I picked up dd after school I ran into ds's teacher again and hobbled up 15 - 20 stairs to get a few things he didn't have at home but needed. DD and I were 15 minutes late to her 30 minute piano lesson because of this extra trip and it didn't help my knee much.

My knee takes some weight, has significant swelling (but I can still fit my jeans on), a little bruising, and when I try to bend it front to back I feel pressure. No major pain, but very limited mobility and swelling. Not worth the cost of an emergency room visit.

Fast forward to this morning... Ds still has a temperature and my knee is no better. I take ds to the doctor and she says he has a virus and it just needs time. I call my doc to try to get in - no office hours today. I call the peds office to see if there is an urgent care facility I can get into. Nothing they know of. So I call my doc back and leave a message. The staff calls back and says I can call a bone and joint practice to see if they'll triage me in. I know noone there and have no knowledge of the place. Fat chance I'm doing that. So now I sit and wait until the morning with my knee up and Motrin in my bloodstream to help with swelling and discomfort (mostly pressure feelings).

sigh...

Ay yi yi. What a day. Keep some ice on it and up in the air. Hopefully its just a bad bruise and strain. Sympathy coming your way, I'd say you deserve it.

I'm sorry, that really stinks. If I can give a little unasked for advice. I own an orthopedic company. It is very rare to actually break a knee cap. I'm sure you bruised it up big time. My best advice is to take aleve, elevate it and ice for 15 min every hour. Try and stay off it for the next few days as much as possible. Whatever you do, do not take a hot bath or put heat of any kind on it.

thanks for the advice. I'm dying to take a shower but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow sometime. My main concern is that I screwed up something on the inside (ligaments, tendons, whatever) but I think I would be in a lot more pain if that was the case. I'm doing my best to stay still (thank goodness I have a laptop and wireless network in the house) and keep it elevated. We ordered in Chinese last night. Not sure what we're going to eat tonight though. Dh is in charge of dinner.

Thanks again for the advice.
