DYK Thread for December

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

I'll probably be on here New Year's Day, if anyone is around

Like I said---it will be a quiet day at home by the fire and I'm looking forward to it

I might stay in my 'jamas all day in fact!!

My Christmas was great.

We stayed home and I cooked.

Wow, I can't believe kids are still reading Judy Blume

I guess they're kind of timeless

I remember "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret"

I loved that book!

My older sister had all of them, and I read them all

Is Judy Blume even still writing?

I bought the Fudge series for my kids a few years back at a book fair. They love them.

I bought "are you there God its me Margaret" at a secondhand bookstore.

Remember the line "I must. I must. I must increase my bust!" HILARIOUS!

I remember telling my plastic surgeon that right before I got my boobs done.

I think it was right after they'd given me the meds to put me under! LOL!

LOL..had a bat discussion with my students recently.

In fact, the NSTA conference (National Science Teachers Association) that I will be attending has a session on bat anatomy that I'd like to attend...it's at 8am the first morning in New Orleans though...I'm not sleeping the night before, just the next 3 nights, so I hope I can make it.

Anyway....Stephenie Meyer's vampires don't have anything to do with bats (that's the only vampires *I* am interested in, since I'm not into vampires). You do become a vampire by a bite by another vampire though.

Pteropus is the genus name for a bunch of fruit bats, and the Flying Fox, which can be found at the Baton Rouge Zoo, is Pteropus vampyrus. But it doesn't suck blood or anything, it eats fruit. Pteropus rodricensis is the Rodrigue fruit bat (my SIL's married name) that can be found at Disney World.

The vampire bats are blood-suckers (that don't turn you into vampires...lol), mostly eating cattle like you said. South America, I think Africa, too. I don't think we have any in this country.

Bats are good for eating mosquitoes, but they also carry rabies. A high school made the news a few years ago for having bats in the cafeteria they had to get rid of.

Aly got a plush vampire bat in May from the science center we went to in Shreveport. She named her Liliana.

She now has a black Webkinz bat that she named Edward, from Twilight.

not to mention the squealing of the lights and the artificial tree...shivers...that's really what triggered it.

Then, Aly was doing noodles in the microwave and that sent a rush of nausea to me....and I like the smell of noodles.

Mike said you don't get migraines from smells. First of all, I didn't....the migraine had already started, but second of all, YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!! HE of all people should know that...he has non-allergic rhinitis triggered by smells. Anyway......

I know I won't be around New Year's Eve.

We always go to church.

We have a service that starts at 10:00. We stay until 12:00 and then we have food afterwards.

The kids have a full blown party downstairs while the adults are upstairs.

Its pretty fun.

My birthday is January 1st.

She wrote a book 'Summer Sisters'. I thought it was pretty good. That is the only adult book of hers that I've read.
