DYK Thread for December
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

LOL that's funny about getting queasy over the oxygen tank
I volunteer in the ER with Michael, so I'm getting pretty used to some gorey stuff
I have gotten light-headed a few times, though
I just step out of the room
Oh, and I'm hoping he does NOT have the stomach virus, but it IS just something he ate
It is a major drag to deal with stomach virus with four kids, trust me!!
Keep your fingers crossed that Michael is not really sick, LOL
I would rather have a cold any day than puke
We always called it that, too..I think it's spelled Catechism. But that's TABOO now.... It's CCD!
Yeah, I don't know what it stands for either!
Mike & I both grew up Catholic. I went to Catechism 1st through 11th grade (Confirmation). Mike only went through 2nd grade (Eucharist).
The Catholic church has changed so much, and we're not even in our hometown anyway. Our church is so large (due to lack of priests, lack of funds) that you can go to the same Mass for 4 weeks in a row and not see more than 5 of the same families more than once.
Mike's a little more anti-Catholic than I am (not really anti-Catholic...just, I don't know--and he's opposed to the fact that they don't use the Bible outside of the readings in Mass), but he agreed to let Aly be baptized in the church and go through 1st & 2nd grade (to Eucharist/First Communion). At our church, to make Confirmation, you ONLY have to go 9th through 11th grades after having made First Communion. And then there's always RCIA, where you can do it all in one year.
Gosh, this is the SECOND board today that I've talked religion...and I never do that!! I am a conservative Christian, regardless. Not as much so as the Protestant religions where I work, though.
Wow..they confirm in 8th grade??? It's 11th grade here...been that way since I was in school....it was 9th or 10th when I was in younger grades.
But as I said before, Aly can make her Confirmation simply by going 9th through 11th grade. Why? I don't know.
You were still "supposed" to go after Confirmation? That was the end for us.
When Aly was in 1st grade, her CCD teacher (a former co-worker...I purposely put her in that class) always bragged that Aly was her best student...she knew everything as they were teaching it. So, apparently, I was doing a pretty good job at home. That kind of makes it "better" that she doesn't go.
My parents gave me a choice after confirmation, I could stop going or keep going, whatever.
Confirmation was 8th grade, and I think I skipped 9th.
But then they changed the high school classes, and they were taught by couples, and they had the classes in their houses.
It was really a lot of fun, and interesting.
So went for 10th and 11th grade.
12th grade I was way too busy, I worked part time and had a lot of other activities.
I'm going to bed now.
Abby has to be at school at 7:05 to go running.
I hope she switches to the afternoon session soon!
DYK yes, what's a Confraternity?
DYK no disrespect to Catholicism but a lot of my friends that are Catholics don't consider themselves practicing Catholics or followers of the Pope
