DYK Thread for
September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

DYK she can't understand why I would expect her to do this paper earlier instead of yapping on the phone w/her friends *eyeroll*

LOL...because that actually makes sense, that's why!

Aly had tentative homework, but finished it and turned it in Friday. I need to "talk" to her science teacher since she gave me the invitation to let her know if anything's too hard or too easy. (She's a brand-new teacher.) This doesn't fall in either category, but I still want to mention it to her.
First of all, she assigned the lab report to be finished for homework. If she can get them back, then great, but I tried that with 7th graders last year, and I'd end up with quite a few 0s because so many of them wouldn't turn them back in. So, what I started doing was grading them "as is", with a "please finish and return" sticker. That way--I had a grade to put in the grade book, and if they chose to finish, they could better that grade.
The other thing...not even math teachers assign homework on a weekend--not to mention a holiday weekend.
So anyway...I guess I should mention it to her, but I hate being confrontational. It didn't affect my child, so I don't think she'd take it as being defensive.
well, technically...we have 2 emergency days built in. After that we are supposed to make them up--by either extending the school year, adding minutes to the day, losing some vacation days, etc.
When Isidore and Lilli hit when Aly was in K, they missed 3 days, but at the time, they had 5 emergency days built in, so there was no need. Later on, they decided we didn't need 5 emergency days, so they cut it to 2.
For Katrina/Rita, we missed a total of 6 days, but the state decided we didn't need to make them up.
So far, we're missing 4 days, but I don't know what will happen next week.
DYK yes, Rach thinks she knows it all but until it happens we'll see....she isn't crazy about using tampons but I told her playing sports she'll need to learn
DYK she has a couple friends that have already started
DYK as for shaving for some reason she wants to start....I am determined that she shouldn't unless its dark or excessive. I have never shaved my entire life but Rach for some reason is convinced I shave, that's why my legs look like they're hairless....I told her my mom told me that was the biggest mistake she made when she came to this country, allowing friends to convince her to shave. My mom told me not to & I'm glad I never did
DYK now if I could get get Rach to see this not shaving as a good thing it would be fine lol (she's got it in her head since all her friends shave she needs to, NOT)
