DYK Thread for
September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

dyk- just came out a staff meeting?
dyk- i work with some very politically incorrect people?
dyk- over lunch why did this moron attempt to ask everyone who they were voting for?
dyk- how stinkin rude was that?
dyk- the funny thing is?
dyk- instead of shutting it down?
dyk- some engaged him in conversation?
dyk- our exec director was pissed?
dyk- but shes a doormat and won't say anything?
dyk I take Omar to school once or twice a week
dyk the line at his hs moves really quick
dyk now Jamil gets a ride every day.
dyk we have two in the house with asthma and that's why I keep the ac on whether he likes it or not
dyk now the temp is a different story lol
dyk I will have it on like 60 and when I know he's on his way home I turn it down to like 72
dyk I have some heat issues and I have the ac and the van on at the same time
dyk in the winter I sleep with a fan and the window open
dyk my dh told me that I need to go and get checked out because I should not have that issue lol
dyk heck yesterday I had a really bad hot flash
dyk I had to get right under the fan, he was laughing at me lol
dyk heck I get those suckers at night too
well, if they hadn't cancelled it, then all would've been okay. It's not Katrina out there. They got their act together this time! and it helped that the levees didn't break as well.
they'll probably even have power restored out there by that time as well.
It's the parishes that are VERY rural like Assumption, Terrebonne, St. Mary--not anything anybody would come do business with, that won't have power for weeks.
Starting a New School Year
dyk- we do argue about the temp too?
dyk- this year wasn't so bad because the summer hasn't been unbearable?
dyk- oh but when the winter comes?
dyk- so will the Thermostat wars? LOL
I'll be attending a convention in March in New Orleans--I can't wait!
We have friends from Colorado coming in for it...it's the National Science Teachers Association annual convention, and the wife of this couple has attended a few of these. They're actually hoping to present at the convention (he's in the process of becoming a science teacher right now, too--they are both ornithologists).
So, if they do come down, Mike's going to come as a "guest" to the convention, too. He's going to be so bored...lol.
I don't know how much of my registration, mileage, accommodations the school board will pay for, but I'm going no matter what--I won't be docked pay or days because we have 2 professional development days built in. It just means that I can't attend something that's coming up--but, hey, THIS is national!
dyk I hate to have the heat on in the winter
dyk but I know it has to be on
dyk just turned down ac, dh will be home really soon
yes, coastal erosion. In fact, the reason hurricanes are hitting our area so bad is because we are losing our barrier islands which are wetlands areas and perform as buffers--slowing down these hurricanes. The loss of these because of coastal erosion is horrible.
And Louisiana IS America's Wetland, because a very significant percentage of our coastal wetlands are found in Louisiana. Here's a great website: http://www.americaswetland.com
We lost so much land from Katrina and Rita, but it's not even just the hurricanes that are hitting that are causing us to lose land. Coastal erosion is serious and it needs to be stopped NOW!
Coastal erosion is a SIGNIFICANT part of my life science teaching!!
