DYK Thread for
September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

dyk Nicole you are not alone
dyk I have been going through this since Jamil was in head start
dyk he was born premature and the doctors told us that he may or may not have learning problems
dyk turns out that he has a whole bunch of things going on with him
dyk so I guess we can all vent out our problems, and our praises about our dc with attention issues.
Thanks!
It was just a reception, they got married in Vegas last week, but they went ahead and postponed it so nobody would have to travel.
Now we probably won't get much of the weather, it's going to stay to the east of Austin, and we're west.
What about looking at Goodwill or Salvation Army for a prom dress?
A friend needed a "Cinderella ball gown" for her dd a few years ago for a play, and found one at Goodwill.
Yes, it is HUGE!
Apparently, Galveston is under water and Ike is still 150 miles southeast of Galveston! (The eye)
I have to take back my scoff earlier about a nearby parish saying it was too dangerous for the kids. I was scared this morning, I was nearly in tears and shaking!! We were under tornado watch (maybe warning at that point), and the winds were so fierce--so many people lost electricity this morning and trees were down. The principal had the para that was answering the phone (before the secs got there) tell parents when they called to let the students stay home. They will all be excused. We still had a big turn-out. I had a quiz (actually, they had 3 quizzes--no tests, though--we stagger those), and I don't have that many that need to make it up.
It was very scary this morning. Winds and rain came & went all day--it never got as bad as this morning. Oh, if you had only seen the stop sign I drove past. The winds were knocking my car every which way. But at least I wasn't on the interstate, those who drive from my area to the school were late because the interstate was so bad--actually, with a lot of Texas evacuees. Since there's no media coverage, they were probably coming here thinking everything was okay--it's NOT okay. Too many people don't have electricity, running water. The shelters are still pretty full, completely full in the hardest hit areas.
A levee breached this morning in Plaquemines parish, and one is about to breach in Chauvin (in Terrebone parish). Plaquemines parish was hit bad with Katrina, Terrebonne with Gustav.
Oh, and the wind is so bad that there are interstate signs blown over that were standing just fine earlier this week! They lasted through the worst storm this area has ever had in recorded history, but Ike knocked them down and it's not even near here. That's VERY scary.
On the way home from the dr (in Baton Rouge), a convoy of Maryland Search & Rescue vehicles were headed west. That's when I found out Galveston was under water (Mike told me).
How is Ike going to be affecting you?
