DYK Thread for
September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

I certainly will. :-)
she lives, I think, just right on the outside loop of Houston..i dont' know the number of the loop...hang on...looks like loop 610......so, she got hit pretty hard.
Ooops, about alyson and the truancy......;-)
17 days is alot!
I am not sure if she was staying put....I just reread her email and it said they would evacuate her area if they flooded....but if not, they were to just batten down the hatches......I hope she is okay....
Yes, we have at&t....(I think)....no..wait....land line is at&t.....cell is cingulair.... or is it at&t..... I don't know.. don't ask me...LOL
LOL...I remember that..ridiculous!
Honestly, the 3rd absence could've been a slip of the homeroom teacher not marking her absent. I've caught myself having done that before (and fixed it), but there's a very good chance I've done that and didn't catch it!
And I know there was a teacher a couple of years ago that purposely did not mark some of the students in the homeroom absent because of an attendance competition. A student told me. I personally went to the office later and asked, "Did such & such check out because he's not here" for each of them. (That's what I'm supposed to do--check the bulletin to make sure the student really isn't here and not just skipping out.)
LOL--there was one situation where on Wednesdays a couple years ago, 10 students from each of my classes would report directly to the computer lab for remediation and she would do roll for those students. But I had library on Wed, so they would only go every OTHER Wed. Well, I had 2 students from my homeroom that I KNEW were here, but when 2nd hour came (when they were in my class--1st hour planning period), they weren't there. I went to the office all frantic not knowing where they were (and neither were angels). I was embarrassed that I hadn't thought to check the computer lab.
oh..you probably didn't catch the story. It was frustrating, but ultimately, hilarious!
I filled out the withdrawal slip with her elementary school in May so they could send her physical records (the folder with all the files) to my school. They had already sent the records to the junior high when I did this, but the AP at the elem had the principal call the junior high to send them to my school and had the withdrawal papers to legally send them.
Well, the records came to my school, but my AP (now principal for the year) needed to schedule Aly in High Math & Beginner Band. There's only so many spots open for these 2 classes, so it was now or never. SHE wasn't aware that our school had already received the records (the secretary was, but wasn't there when the AP was doing this). SO, she made up a social for Aly 123456789. Because the computer records are linked in the school system by social, it didn't register as a student MOVE, so Aly "legally" (as per social security #) stayed in THEIR system even though they had drop papers and no longer had her records. And she FORGOT to ask the secretary the next day about it...or even to e-mail me to ask.
So, after 5 days, they call my SIL to ask why Aly wasn't coming to school...lol. She explained to them that I was a teacher in the parish, and she was with me. Well, Mike called them back, and the AP was not very friendly (he was DEMANDING of our secretary). He didn't even CHECK before calling on her records. It would've raised another red flag, but he wouldn't have been telling Mike and our secretary that we had to come do the papers IMMEDIATELY or they would call truancy on us.
Never mind that the fact alone that our school having the records would have been an ILLEGAL move for them if they didn't actually have the withdrawal papers....lol. I would've called him on THAT if I had talked to him myself.
he doesn't have a dr's excuse for that?
My stepsister has asthma and missed more days than she went to school.
it was Cingular, which is now AT&T...lol.
My phone still says Cingular when I turn it on.
