DYK Thread for
September

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

We didn't lose power once we got it, so I hope the same for her.

Hi Christi! It is beautiful here too.On Sunday night we had a horrible wind storm, becasue of hurricane Ike.We did not get a drop of rain but the wind was aweful. There are tons of people without power and they may not get it until Saturday.Gabby was really scared becasue the wind gusts were so bad and they kept on kicking on the motion light. Our power only flickered.Same with my moms. However a ton of her friends are without power. Our power companies actually sent a lot of repair crews done to the gulf. There are a few schools that are still without power. The weather people did not predict the winds, they were actully predicting rain, but we did not get a drop of rain.

My mom started her chemo yesterday morning. She had to get a ton of dental work done before she could start.I took her and it was really kind of tough driving hrough the city since a ton of red lights were out and 1/2 the roads were closed due to the wind storm on Sunday.

At least I know how long the chemo will take now, because i really took much longer than they said and since her appointment was for 9am and they said it would take about 3 hours I really did not make plans for Gab.She has this thing where she will not go into an empty house.I did up call a friends mom and she said Gab could hang there. However we did get home by 3.

My mom wanted to go home last night which in a way was good because Dale has a horrible cold and she has to watch since her immune system will be compromised. The nurse said with her particuler brand of medicine she would probably be sick within the first 12 hours. So far so good, but we shall see.My mom lives about 25 mins away so if she needs anything her house is easy to get too.Plus she has good neighbors who can be with her until I can get to her.She was supposed to get a shot to raise her white blood cell count, but insurance will not pay for it until her white blood cell count becomes dangerously low, then that will proove she needs it.The dr think she needs it now,but the insurance companies opion is the only on that seems to count. My mo asked how much the shot was,but the drs office said no one could afford it.The dr did say that by the 2nd round they will probably be able to proove that she needs it,becasue they may have to hospitilize my mom and give her intervinous antibotics for infections,so that will prrove that theshot is necessary. We shall see.

DYK I hope all goes well w/ur mom's chemo treatment....we had a woman who was the director of an office undergo chemo for 6 months. She's back now & took a job w/another agency & seems to be thriving healthwise, I wish the same for your mom.

DYK that stinks about the insurance policy....I assume there's no way around that paperwork esp if the dr says you can't afford to pay for the shot out of pocket, ugh!

They will ok it if she has to be hospitized and get antibotics interveniously because her white cell counts are so low.

I think the shot is close to $5000 per shot and she would need 4.

I talked to my mom this am and so far so good.

She is having lunch with some friends today.

1 treatment down 3 to go for her.
