DYK Thread for
September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

Gabby is adjusting too.She brought home her progress report yesterday and she is doing really well. Her lowest grade was a 95% and that was in gym.Not sure where the 95 came from as this is the first year they get an actual grade in gym.
I am sure some of her %'s will be lower by the end of the 9 weeks becasue they are pretty high at the moment. She has a 100% in English and computer. However the vocab in English is getting harder each week and they do not get a word bank for the est.The words are pretty much 10 synayms, that mean practically the same thing,so they truely are hard. She also gets SAT words, but those are actually easier, because they do have diff definations. She has a 98% in science ,but now they are getting into the nitty gritty of science so we shall see how it goes.Math and Reading should stay pretty much the same. They started reading The Outsiders last week and she is enjoying that.
Gab has off on Columbus day.Do you always get the Jewish holidays off?We never do.
DYK yes, the girls get Jewish holidays off....I think its a holdover from 30 yrs ago
DYK Please don't anyone take this as anti-Semitic but now immigrants outnumber the Jews except maybe on the school board....I'd prefer not to have these days off (Rosh Hashanah is New Yr....I don't get Chinese New Yr off so I don't see the big fuss about this) & instead have longer winter break
DYK our area has truly become a majority of minorities -- that being the case I don't believe any one religion should have holiday singled out, again just IMHO
DYK the girls go to school but we are off Columbus day so the school system has what they call open house...you can drop in to see your child in an actual class

In my hometown, the Catholic school tried to be "open" on all Holy Days of Obligation, since they can make sure the students go to Mass. ;o)
