OT- Reward Question

Yesterday the four of us went to see Phantom of the Opera. We had a fantastic time. As we were getting out of our car Tegan spotted a wallet under the car beside us. DH picked it up and we decided we were not comfortable leaving it with the parking lot attendant. The wallet had ID, his debit card credit cards, a citizenship card and an American $5.00.
So once we got home we went to www.yellow.ca to look up the gentleman so we could advise him Tegan had found his wallet. Well it didn't work so we called his bank and they called him. He called us back rather quickly and he was stunned that we had his wallet since he didn't even realize he'd lost it.
Well we live about an hour away from where Tegan had found the wallet but DH works about two blocks away from where the owner of the wallet lives. So he came by DH's work and picked it up. He said he was really glad to get his wallet back and he tried to give DH $50.00 to give to Tegan. DH turned it down. We don't want to send that message to our girls. We want them to know that you do the right thing because it is what is proper not to be rewarded for it.
WWYD?

Good eyes Tegan! I would do exactly what your dh did. You do the right thing because it's the right thing, not because you hope to get rewarded for it.

Hello Rasheita,
I was thinking about the situation you had with Omar on Saturday. I was wondering how the punishment worked out for you?
We had a situation here on Saturday evening as well. Tegan (13) was upset with me and left the house at 7:50. she told me she was going for a walk and i told her not to go b/c it was getting dark. Well she went anyway. I went out looking for her about 2 minutes after she left the house. It took me about 20-25 minutes to find her. I was very upset b/c by this time it is quite dark out and she is very small for her age.
Rather then punish her in the conventional way we chose something different. We had her research runaway children and what becomes of them. We also found a list of about 15 questions to ask yourself if you are ever thinking of running away. She had to write out all her answers and present them to us. She said she found it informative and she thought it helped her think things through. It seems to have worked for us. She really is a good kid and she only has about 2 blowups a year and thank goodness for that.

It was wonderful, the kids were so excited. They were floating on air both before and after the performance.

I would not take the money. This type of thing could happen to any of us at any time. I would hope that we'd all look out for one another and do the right thing not because we expect a reward, but because we hope someone would do the same for us.
