Penis size at Age 10

I am new to this board and am wondering if I can get some advice here... My 10 year old son has a VERY small penis and I am worried that he is not developing properly. It has hardly grown over the years and when I happen see my friends' sons, they're penises are much bigger at way younger ages. My son's is probably 3/4" long and 1" around -- not a whole lot bigger than when he was a baby! I'm worried that at some stage he's going to start being teased -- if he hasn't been already. Also, despite the adage that size doesn't matter, I am afraid that abnormally small would be a problem for a woman. I hate to sound superficial, and I'm really NOT, but I worry about him being teased or rejected or him becoming insecure as a result of falling short on something that is so important to men in general. So far, he has never mentioned it as an issue, and I don't want to draw it to his attention (by bringing him to the doctor, for example) for fear of sensitizing him to it. Any advice on this would be most appreciated!

Welcome, Maryjen! I don't know the answer to your question, but since it's worrying you, why not call your pediatrician? You don't have to take your son in for an exam to ask this question. Also, at my son's last 2 annuals, the pediatrician did "peek" in his shorts to check him. When was your son's last exam? If it's been a while, perhaps take him in for a physical, and let your doc know ahead of time your concern, but not to discuss it in front of your son.

I'm glad you found our board and asked this question. Maybe another poster will have more information for you. Also, there are places on parentsoup where you can post a question to a pediatrian. That might be worth a try, also. I can't find the link at the moment, but I'll find out for you.

Hi,

I don't have an answer either but I was have been wondering the same thing about my son who is almost 10 years old. His penis dosent seem any bigger than his brother's penis and he is only 3 years old. If you find out anything, I sure would like to here it!!

Hi, I don't really have any more advice other than to relay what I went through with me son a couple years ago.

Thanks, all. I will make an appt with the doctor (although dh will scoff since he thinks I'm worrying over nothing) and speak to her beforehand and afterwards, and also will post to the other website. It was really great to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

If peditrician has never said a word you can be sure he is fine! Puberty will turn him crazy over night and he will shoot up and his penis will develop too. If you need a further reassurance just have ped. take a look see on next visit (let them know privately so he has no idea what Dr is doing besides looking in his undies).
