perfume for young girls

I guess I mean cologne really. I was thinking about getting something for Kristen at Christmas. She doesn't have anything and I thought obviously something young and light, maybe something from a celebrity. Well, today I smelled Hilary Duff's stuff. It was okay, a little sweet for me but then its not for me. But it was $75 a bottle or $85 for a gift box set. (obviously the set is the deal but $75 for perfume for an 11 year old seems extreme. So thought I'd ask for ideas.

Do your girls use/have perfume? Which ones? Do they use it (sparingly)? I will not buy Paris Hilton's perfume even if it smells like heaven itself. LOL I'm also stearing clear of Britney Spears. Sounds so shallow but if I do buy her a "celebrity" perfume they better be a decent celebrity. But I'm open to other products as well, not ONLY celebrity scents. So suggestions are welcome and then I will go and burn out my scent glands at the store. LOL

Those expensive celebrity scents really aren't marketed toward the pre-teen set.

I got the American girl perfume for Hannah last year (from Bath and Body Works). It smells pretty good, and not that expensive.

My DD loves Escada stuff. She mostly uses their lotion though, although she want's some Escada perfume for Christmas. They ahve good prices too so I'm fine with buying it for her lol! I think her favorit lotion is called "Pacific Paradise" or somthing like that.

Welcome Debi and glad you came out of lurkdom. We are both off next Friday so maybe in guise of going to shop for her Dad's birthday present we'll go the mall and do some sniffing. It just seems there are sooooo many perfumes out there its hard to figure out what is good and not, but everyone gave me some ideas I'll write down and sniff out, literally.

I bought Caitie a Calgon package:

and I find it is the best for preteens. It is really cheap (I get it from Shoppers). They have different scents and coloured bottles, and different matching packages with body spray, lotion, etc. in it. A package of body spray, lotion, and a smaller perfume to put in your purse costs around $20, but you can buy a large bottle of spray for less than $10. It does smell nice, I like it and recommend it. They have fun scents- Hawaian (sp) Ginger, Very Berry, etc. Caitie uses it occasionally, not everyday though.

This is their website:
