Wasn't sure where to put this the 10-12 or 13-14 so I'll put it here.A quick question last night around 8:30,Gabby came down stairs and asked me if she started her period, because she had two little drops of blood in her underwear.I wasn't sure but I got her set up with a panty liner sized pad and told her to wait and see if anything more happens.Well nothing more at all.Nothing on tp when she wipes herself and nothing on the pad.I am not sure if she started or not.She is starting to develop, but she really has not gone through a growth spurt at all and Gabby claims she has no boobds(ie no cleavage)I feel kind of silly not having a clue. When I satrted it was an actual period. She says maybe she is just one of those people who have light periods.Well unless she has a utertus the size of a pea no pepd is that light.Anyway any of you with girls who have started was it really obvious? Two drops, and I do mean tiny drops,do not a period make. She claims she did not hurt herself there. Most of her friends who started were more developed than her when they started, but I she does have hair and tiny bumps,so maybe but I dn't know. She still looks more like a girl than a women(KWIM).She can still wear size 12 in pants,so she is not that big yet she weighs around 83lbs and she is just short of 5ft.I kind of feel dumb siince I am cluless.TIA for any answers or if yu could share your experience with me.I talked to my bff,but she does not ahve girls, and like me when she started it was a period, not two little drops.

Was she engaging in any strenuous type of activity shortly before this happened, where it could have been the breaking of the hymen?

My dd's small too.
Both of my girls started with brown blood at first and both at age 12 1/2.
Taylor started her first day of 7th grade in white jeans at 12 1/2. It only lasted a few days and it was light and mostly brown blood. Then nothing for 10 months.. after that she has had very heavy somewhat regular periods. She was probably 5'5" and 110 lbs at that time.
Brooke started at 12 1/2 and it never stopped. She even has break through bleeding in between her periods with bright red blood. She also started with brown blood and then it became heavy and she bled for many many days the first time. She was probably around 5'6" and 100 lbs at that time.
It's different for everyone.
I have heard that girls are usually over 100 lbs before they start but I'm sure it depends on the child. Some girls are just tiny and petite. You should know in a day or two if that is her period because I'm sure more blood would show.
What age did you start your period? I have heard it is around the same age as mom.
Hi Laura,
I don't think it is her full blown period.

HI Laura! I agree with the others, that I wouldn't consider this the start of her period, although it could be a warning sign. When Alexis started (can you believe it's been over two years now!?!) it was also very brown and fairly heavy. One of her BF's just started this weekend and her mom and I were talking and hers was also brown.
I would say if Gab is worried have her wear pantyliners...they are so small that they aren't in anyway uncomfortable and it may give her some peace of mind.
((hugs)) being a mom is not so easy sometimes!

Yes, Alexis did grow some taller in the last two years. You know a lot of times kids will bulk up a bit before they start all this puberty stuff and then do a major shot up to even it out. So if Gab were to add some weight that isn't normal for her I would chalk it up to this as well.
As for her chest, yeah, it grows after you start your period. Alexis had barely anything at 10. At the start of 6th grade she was a A+ or small
