polling place? If so, do you worry about their safety with so many adults going in and out of the building on election days? Just curious... Both my kids' schools are and someone was circulating a petition to have the schools closed (but staff there, like professional development or inservice). On election days. What are your thoughts?

Her elementary school was. But the entrance was almost directly to the gym and there were people blocking off the hallway to the rest of the school so no one could wander around. I think they kept someone at the front doors too in order to tell people to go around to the right entrance. It was never a problem.

Neither of my boys' schools are polling places. Actually, none of the 9 schools in our town are polling places. If there were a separate entrance where voters go, I guess that would be OK. However, if the voters had to roam around the building to find the correct location, I think something should be done to move the voting location away from the school. Just my 2 cents.

Yes my girls school is a polling place but schools are closed for both primaries & general election days so no worries for me.

They use our schools on elecion days and they usually close the schools when they do,excep this year we will be making up a snow day during the primary. They actually vote in a different part of the building and they do not have access to the student population.Traffic seems to be more of a problem than anything, since buses are going in and out, plus parking isn't always the best.It really is easier to close the building on that day

Ian's elementary school is a polling place, Kayleigh's school is not.

Louisiana has a Saturday voting day. The ONLY time we ever vote on Tuesday is election day on the even number years (Pres & Congress). Everything else is held on a Saturday.

On Pres elections, the schools are closed. This year, the teachers have an in-service, but in 2004, it was off for everyone.

On the other years, they don't have as great a turn-out, but they do have the polling away from the student body. If it's in the gym, then the gym is off-limits for students that day, or whatever.

My school is not a polling place. But Aly's school is, and we vote at a different school.

My boys' school is a polling place, and I have also thought about the security issues.
