Prop. 8 how would you vote?

Here in Ca. we are voting on whether or not to allow same sex marriage. The proposition wants to keep marriage only between a man and woman. I really don't know how to vote. I have gay friends and a gay cousin. I am not a homophobe.
If we allow same sex marriage to be legal, how will it really affect the tax payers?
I'm not sure if other states are voting on this. There have already been same sex marriages in San Francisco. The only thing I don't agree with is last week a 1st grade class in SF took a field trip to a gay marriage ceremony! I wouldn't want it to be taught to my kids in school. Do you think a class would ever take a trip to a straight marriage ceremony?!
Thoughts appreciated.

One of my best friends is gay and I would STILL vote NO! He knows it and we have no problems. I am entitled to my opinion and I only share it when asked.

I wouldn't have allowed my children to participate in that field trip. I don't believe in gay marriage and I am not teaching tolerance of it to my children.

Although i do not live in ca... Field trips are allowed only with signed permission slips from the parents. If you do not want your child to go on a field trip then you have that right. Dont sign the permission slip.

As for gay marriage.... from what I have read it does not affect any tax increase or decrease to anyone. They will be "married" does not mean anything else. Why should it bother you what others want to do with their personal lives?

I would vote yes.

I view gay marriage as a civil rights issue.

I would have no problem with it if they didn't call it marriage.

Yes, I would vote in favour of same sex marriage. I don't believe in marriage for myself, but if same sex couples want to head down that road, I fully support them.

I support a legal union between same sex couples allowing them all the rights (and responsibilities) of married couples. But I would like it to be called something other than marriage.

I just saw a little more on the "field trip" and it was the 1st graders' teacher who was getting married. Now as a parent I might take my children to their teacher's wedding, but I would not want it to be a class field trip.

Also I don't understand why people think the term "marriage" should apply only to a man and a woman. The word marriage to me indicates commitment in a much more binding fashion than the word union does. Why should only straight couples get to have a marriage, but same sex couples have to have a union?
