Revealing Body Scanners Used in LA., NY
updated 8:34 a.m. PT, Fri., April. 18, 2008

NEW YORK - Airports in New York and Los Angeles have become the latest equipped with body scanners that allow security screeners to peer beneath a passenger's clothing to detect concealed weapons.

The machines, which are about the size of a revolving door, use low-energy electromagnetic waves to produce a computerized image of a traveler's entire body.

Passengers step in and lift their arms. The scans only take a minute, and Transportation Security Administration officials say the procedure is less invasive than a physical frisk for knives, bombs or guns.

Well, I'm sure they don't actually see an image of you naked. Its like an x-ray, its only going to show up an image of a weapon against a vague shape of a body I'm sure. So they see my stomach which I thought I'd hidden under a baggy sweater. Whatever, they delete it after I'm gone.

did you read about the gal that set off the scanner with her nipple rings? I think she's suing the airline. I gotta find the article.

Well, that's what she gets for piercing things that don't belong pierced!! (If anyone has anything like that pierced here, I firmly believe it is a personal choice.)

I agree with you. I guess the gal couldn't take them out before the scan.

If I don't get blown up on the plane, or the plane falls out of the sky onto some kids school, it is OK by me!

I can't wait for the first lawsuit to stem from more...how shall we say it....intimate piercings. If you choose to get your nipples pierced them it's a no brainer that the metal will set it off so the sensible thing to do is tell them and they will ask to see it and prob frisk you out of the eyeline of other passengers. Problem solved. All together now - duuuuuh!!!

she was frisked. That's where the lawsuit comes into play. Men that worked there kept coming into the room to check her out. I gotta find the article and post it.
