Do you allow myspace/facebook accounts? Rules? No, I don't allow that, but luckily she's had no interest in it.
What about Instant Messanging? Rules? She does alot of messaging in MSN. The rules are I have to know who is on her list (I don't have to know them personally but I have to know who they are, how she knows them) and I have the right to read her logs from time to time. Most of her list are school friends, a few from camp and a couple from her Neopets guild. I have yet to read anything which concerns me, besides the usual tween catiness that makes me crazy but is pretty normal on or off the internet at this age.
What about interactive live games(Runescape, Neopets, etc..) Rules? Neopets is her main activity on-line. There isn't actually live chat or games on Neopets, however they have messageboards similar to ivillage but more subject specific (how to play a certain game, where to find hidden avatars, that kind of thing). Individuals can start guilds and members can join and they are very similar to our message boards. Kristen's been on a few and they are a bunch of girls usually around the tween/teen age who "chat". But its not a live chat, its just a very fast moving message board. Very similar to the DYK thread we have. I have checked on the threads from time to time and its pretty benign. Complaining about school, talking about what they are going to do on the weekend, they have "parties" on Halloween where everyone plans to come and post and they play games on-line. At Christmas they get "secret Santas" and send each other neopets gifts.

Share your thoughts! I think kids need to be really careful and parents need to keep an eye on them
My kids both have myspace accounts (and so do I) and I’m listed as a friend on their myspace. I quickly check over their myspace daily (more often than my kids log on!) as well as periodically check their friends myspace (via access to my kids myspace friends list).
QOTW: Computer/Internet Access. When it comes to the computer and your tween-teen-----what do you allow and what are the rules?
* DS (almost 12) has his own laptop that he bought with his own money. He is only allowed to use it in the kitchen where I can see him. He is only supposed to be on for an hour a day, but he tends to stretch that into more...
Do you allow myspace/facebook accounts? Rules?
* No, but he does not seem to be interested in that yet, thank goodness.
What about Instant Messanging? Rules?
* Yes. That's almost all he uses the computer for. I monitor his IMs with "Parents on Patrol" chat-checker software, and he knows this.
What about interactive live games(Runescape, Neopets, etc..) Rules?
* No, not interested.
Email accounts? Rules?
* He has one for school and one at home, but he rarely uses email. It's so "old-fashioned," you know. ;-)
Do you have Internet Protection SOftware on your compute(Net Nanny, Cyber Nanny, etc..) How does that work?
* The free version of Parents-on-Patrol, which basically only monitors IMs and emails.

* He is definitely learning; I think at this age they sort of feel like they can say things online that they would never say in person; he has learned some hard lessons about this.
Emily has has a myspace account for about 1-1 1/2 years now and I monitor it daily.
