Kayleigh isn't as into the electronics as some of her friends are, she doesn't need the fancy phone and the texting and stuff.

My kids have LOTS of electronics because my dad is a techie. They do not use HALF of what they have. Take for instance, their laptops. ALL 3 of my kids have laptops (my dad retired from HP and he gets them dirt cheap and he felt his grandkids needed them) ...

Rachel has been bugging us to get her a cell w/keyboard to text. Shhhhh....I went out yesterday to get her one but had to replace mine too since it was a buy one, get one free deal. Then I also got DH an iPhone (kewl gadget if you can afford one I must admit). Now of course, Jamie (9.5 yo) wants a cell but really I can't see getting her one until she's in MS. One of the main reasons I told Rach I'd seriously consider getting her one was that she is trying out for her MS basketball team & starting to get into more extracurricular activities. Therefore in case she has an emergency going home after school on the activity bus or gets stuck at school then a phone would be helpful since the school doesn't let the kids use the office phone (office is closed).

I am not a fan of all these gadgets....just because "all my friends have one" isn't a good reason for me to get her one. Also I told her she'd have to keep her grades up & there would be restrictions for use during the school yr which I think is reasonable even if she doesn't ;-) Its not that I'm against all these tech items but I don't necessarily see a need for all of them even if they want it. That being said, DH is the one that bought Rach her iPod nano & DS and Jamie her shuffle & DS so I think as far as electronics he's the softie!

Liz is asking for a PSP this year...last year it was a laptop and mp3 player...she wanted an iPod but I flat out said no because they are WAY too expensive and don't hold that many songs, when you can get a regular mp3 player that holds the same amount of songs for about $60!
