What ways do you prepare your 10-14 year olds for the first day of school? We started 'school bedtime' a couple of nights prior...that's about it!
Do you do anything special to mark this day? Mimosa's as I slam the door and I have a filet mignon marinating for lunch...Oh wait...is this about ME or about them???
Sept. 4 is the first day. We don't usually do anything special. Its the one day of the year she gets up without any prodding. LOL I usually take a picture and that's about it. Sometimes we go out for dinner that night, just depends what is going on.
No real big preparations. I just make sure they have all the supplies they need to bring in for the first day, that they have finalized arrangements with friends to walk to school and home from school, and that they set the alarm clock for school :).
The first day of school is a regular full day. And they are sooooo ready to go back! Lynn
Hmmm...well, we've been buying some school clothes and supplies, but I don't give them their stuff until the week before school. We do the bedtime thing, trying to break them of their summer sleeping habits. I try to do a special dinner the weekend before and we have a family meeting to remind them of the rules and expectations. This is also the kickoff to what I call our "busy season" with sports and everything. Yikes!
Like any other school morning, I make sure that ds is up ontime, has plenty of time to get dressed and eat a nice hot breakfast (we never do cold cereal on school days).
I bake Oatmeal cookies on the first day of school for Connor to have when he gets home. I've been doing this since Kindergarten. He's a high school freshman this year.

Prepare? Ummm, nothing really. Just make sure they go to bed at a decent hour the night before!
I usually take a "1st day of school" picture which Hannah hates now! We usually go out for lunch the first day--it is only until 11:00.

I like Denise's idea but I'll be at work. Oh well.
We start on regular bed and wakeup times the week before school starts.
