We don't do much to prepare, but to mark the day, I *always* take a first-day-of-school pic in front of our house. I take a picture in the same spot on the last day of school, too! I also take a picture of all of the neighborhood kids at the bus stop. I intend to keep doing this, even though they will be in middle school this year. They can humor me. :)
QOTW: What ways do you prepare your 10-14 year olds for the first day of school?
Usually we move bedtime and wake up time back to a more normal hour. However, this year we're going to Disney World the week before school starts. We won't be back until Sunday or Monday (9/2 or 3) School starts on the 4th. It should be very interesting waking them up that day (lol).
Do you do anything special to mark this day?
Not really. For the last few years, I've already started my fall semester class when they're just starting school, and I've got a ton of work to do. This year, my fall class is online, so I'll be home. And probably cleaning up the mess that we left from vacation (lol).
Prepare by buying school supplies, if necessary, and buying new school uniforms. Get a good night's sleep the night before.
I usually do a special treat in the afternoon. Used to be creative with it...one year, I made a dessert similar to Rainforest Cafe's Volcano, complete with a sparkler candle (which they no longer do). This year, she got ice cream! (I'm sorrry! I teach now!)
