I work from home so Connor stays home mostly when I'm off running errands somewhere.
<>
No friends over, don't answer the door and screen calls (answering only if it's grandma, or my cell phone).
<>
No no friends over and Connor is an only child.

My ten year old never stays home alone. Sometimes she stays home with her 16 year old sister if there is no school and I have to work, but it's not very often at all beacuse the oldest usually has plans of her own.

How long does your 10-14 yr old stay home alone?
How long does your 10-14 yr old stay home alone? My two kids are 15 and 13 so I have no problem with them staying home alone for periods of time. My youngest would LOVE to be home by herself but her brother is normally home too. We'll leave them to occasionally go out dinner or on the weekends when we need to run errands...we may be gone several hours. Maybe TWICE we've stayed out late enough that they've gone to bed before we've gotten home.
Do they get off to school by themselves, stay home after school alone or just when you run errands? I am home in the mornings to get them off to school but occasionally they get home a couple of hours before I do in the afternoons.
What rules do you have in place? They now have their own computer with parental internet controls so they have to alternate every hour. This keeps them apart and busy! :) They don't open the door to anyone and they'd BETTER answer their phones if I call.
Are they allowed to have friends over with them or do they babysit younger siblings? I've never had my oldest babysit the youngest, we literally never left them alone until the youngest was able to take care of herself. They're too competitive to put one in charge of the other. My son has one friend who's actually my daughter's age who is 'preapproved' to come over when I'm not home.

My kids have stay home alone periodically. DH gets them off to schoo and they are picked up from the bus stop. We hired some help a few months back, but she is moving back to Brazil. So DH put in for a local job transfer, which will allow him to be home when they get home when I can't. My tween is 11, so normally when I run errands around town my kids will stay home.
The rules. No answering the door- FOR ANYONE, so that eliminates having friends over!! Dh and I come thru the garage, so there is no reason to open the front door. No answering the phone unless its me or daddy. DS is allowed to talk on his cell phone, but that is it. No cooking! They can use the toaster oven or the microwave but they have to call and ask DH or FIRST!!
My two come home from school by themselves.

In Louisiana, the state law is 11 years old to stay home by yourself. I just verified it 2 weeks ago.
And that's the law, and I'm a law-abiding citizen, so she has never been home alone.
