Hannah doesn't get off to school on her own. If i'm going to be gone in the morning DH drops her off at the neighbors.

I'm home when she gets out of school.

I rarely leave her home alone. Maybe 10/15 min while I run an errand and she is not to have anyone over if we are not home.

It is the reason a chose to be a SAHM. I want to get her off to school and be home when she gets home. :)

How do I find out what the law is in Washington State? I think some kids are very responsible and can stay home alone even at age 10, kwim?

Now that my daughter is 11, I do leave her at home alone. Last weekend I left her to babysit her younger brother while I had to go to work for a couple of hours. My husband had to take care of his elderly father, so he couldn't be home.

Rules? She isn't allowed to cook anything while I'm gone, and she can't have anyone in the house if I don't know about it first. I'm never far away, and she knows she can always reach me on my cell phone.

I always see her off to school, and I am usually home before she gets back.

QOTW: Our board question of the week is about our 10-14 yr olds staying home alone. How long does your 10-14 yr old stay home alone? Do they get off to school by themselves, stay home after school alone or just when you run errands?

My 11 yr old has stayed by herself for about 2 hours during the daytime. She gets driven to school by me every morning since the school is 15 mins from our home by car and has no bus service. Next year, she may be in a different school and would like to ride the bus if there is one so we'll see. Right now, it's just when I run short errands.

What rules do you have in place? There's not too many rules. Just no answering the door or the house phone, keeping her cell phone on and not using the stove. I also leave the dog with her and ask that she keep him with her in her room or wherever she is.

Are they allowed to have friends over with them or do they babysit younger siblings? She did watch her little sister for 1/2 an hour when I had to run and pick up their dad when he got home from Florida but that was a special event and will not be repeated for a while. I trust her to know what to do in an emergency but I dont' trust her sisters to listen to her since they fight like cats and dogs.
