As my girls have gotten older, I haven't helped with homework much at all. I keep checking in on them, though to make sure they are turning stuff in when they are supposed to, etc. and if the homework is done. They have an agenda where they keep track of it all.
They are really good students with an occasional forgotten assignment.

I've been involved in Sherina's school life since the beginning...including helping her with homework if needed.

Thanks to Kelly (mom2emsopmax) for my beautiful siggy! Photobucket

My kids are obsessive about homework. The only thing I do on a consistent basis is to tell them the family schedule so they'll know how to plan their time. For example, if we're going away for the weekend, the kids need to know to finish their weekend HW on Friday or be up until midnight on Sunday night.

Every once in a while, they'll ask me to listen to an essay they've written or to help them understand the directions on something.

I don't think it's a good idea to be too involved. The kids need to learn to do the work on their own or accept the consequences for not doing it. The exceptions are if the child isn't getting enough help from the teacher or needs extra challenges (or tutoring) and the teacher doesn't recognize it.

We have the on-line progress reports. Some of Hannah's teachers send home a progress report for me to sign. The other day I got her math progress report. I saw that she had 4 missing assignments. She was so busted. They were in her binder. She just didn't turn them in. What???? She has a B in the class. I don't know how one can have a B in the class with 4 missing assignments, but whatever.
