I know in Canada you are not allowed your child anything that is profane but plain stupid is okay. I personally wouldn't give my child an embarassing name, but I don't think it is a legal matter. The child can always change his name or go by a nickname. In the case of the name in the article the child would most likely wind up being called Talula because the whole name is such a mouthful, even for the parents. Can you imagine saying all that everytime you wanted to call your child for dinner?

What a ridiculous name. You've gotta wonder what possesses someone to do that to their child. I think if the child wanted to change her name or just shorten it to Talula which is normal enough, I think that she should be allowed to file with the court to do so. It shouldn't be a judge's decision, it should be the child's decision but the court would need to rule on whether the name warranted legal changing - this girl's name certainly did, but if you have a 10 year old named Amy who wants to change her name to Charlotte, I think that's a decision that you get to make as an adult and not on a whim - as a kid, I would have liked to have changed my name every week
When Gabrielle was 8 she came out of school telling me we needed to call the lawyer. When I asked why she said she needed to change her name to Coco.Since Coco Chanel was a famous fashion designer.FOr awhile she had everyone (including her 3rd grade teacher) calling her COCO.After awhile it got old so now she is Gabby or Gabrielle;-)
