Yes we have medical insurance and it sucks! Medical benefits have been on the decline for the past few years. Employers are charging up the wazoo for benefits that BARELY cover your needs. There was a time that I could go to the dr and not worry about an ADDITIONAL bill coming in the mail. Now? Not so much.

I don't see how Obama can "mess with" something that is already in shambles. IMO

The kids and I have pretty decent health insurance through my job, although the prescription coverage co-pays are quite large, luckily we don't use them very often.

I do think medical insurance needs to be addressed, but I ABSOLUTELY do not want our government to take it over, national insurance would be a disaster IMO. Look at how well our government is handling the money they have, lol, do we actually want them in charge of our medical coverage too? Not me, thanks.

Yes, insurance is a mess, but it will be a bigger mess if we hand it over to the government.

I don't know what the answer is.In isn't as if most middle class families have wonderful health insurance,in fact most don't.However the govt getting involved probably isn't the best answer.I am not too thrilled with the insurance companies at the moment my mom has breast cancer and her insurance company refused to pay for a shot that would help her white blood cell count during chemo. She also has to travel 30+ miles from her home o receive her radiation, becasue there is not one oncologist in her county that will accept her insurance becasue it is a medicare co pay.Radition is 5 days a week for 6 weeks so that is huge expense ingas and she also needs to pay daily to park in the city. There really truly is something wrong with a heath care system that refuses to pay for treatments or makes people travelk miles and miles to receive theses treatments. My mom also pays something into her heath care and she did for years, but they still refuse 1/2 of what she needs. It just kind of makes me angry,Not sure what the answer is,but not everyone in the US has wonderful health care.It isn't as if my mom never worked for a living, but suddenly she is sick and she has to stress about what dr will take her insurance. When she 1st started the process she has to wait 2 weeks for the insurance company to get back to her about who would take her insurance.I will say that the dr who does take her insurance is excellent, but at a time of illness finding who will care for you should not be an issue.

We have insurance and it covers a good portion of what we need but it could be sooooo much better. As someone else said, I used to be able to go to the doctor and not worry about another bill coming. Not the case these days. We switched about a year ago when dh changed jobs and I spent hours on the phone trying to straighten out what the new company refused to pay for because they considered it a "pre-existing condition". Um excuse me but the last company covered Evan's allergy treatments and he's had the same allergies since he was 2. Why do we pay for insurance if it's not going to cover our medical issues. We looked into private insurance about two years ago and couldn't get coverage because of Evan's health issue, dh's health issues, and a condition I've got. S*cks!!!

Honestly, I'm not sure what can fix the mess, except to cut down on doctors insurance costs and legal b.s.

I live in Canada, so its a different situation.

I do have health insurance but for a long time I didn't. Well not true. I did, through a student plan at my old university, but Kurt didn't since I couldn't afford it. Everyone seems to think Canada has free health care for everything but that isn't really true.

When Katie's Dad and I were together, he put Kurt and I on his work health insurance. Luckily, he has kept us on there, even though we split up. I couldn't afford the one through my current university. His covers 90% of all prescriptions, birth control (my IUD only cost 30 bucks even though Rick grumbles about not getting his money's worth. LOL), dentist, chiropractor, psychiatrists, and therapists. It also got me a semi private room when I had Katie (no one else was in it though) and we were both in the hospital for 5 days afterwards. I don't even want to know how much that would have cost me if I was American without insurance!

There are problems with the Canadian health care system and it scares me that it is being dismantled. I wish they would fix it and I wish that there weren't any uninsured people in the United States either. I doubt Obama will do enough, so I don't think he's going to mess it up.

My mom actually decided to dicontinue her chemo, mainly becasue it made her so ill,and it was one of those things where it was recommended, but she could decide.I am not sure if she made the right choice or not.The cancer was not in her lympnodes,so that is the choice she made. One factor in her choice was the insurance company not paying for the shot that was supposed to boost her immune system. They figure you do not need it,unless you are hospitilzed and being pumped full of anti botics, then that is proof you need it.Anyway she is taking the radiation. She thought she would be able to take it closer to home, but she needs to go to town Pittsburgh, every week day for 6 weeks, becasue that is what the insurance company says she needs to do.Then when she calls certain drs the recepitionist gets nasty with her, when she inquires abou coverage. At least I am pretty close to the city and I can take her most days, she'll drive up here and we can go from there. It is just frustrating and very annoying.
