I'll warn you now that I will go into a "coach" rant at the end.

BUT, we NEED men teachers in our schools...particularly more at the elementary level. So many kids have no positive male role models at home, so this would be excellent. Kids also need to learn how to react/respond with males because they will have to later on. One reason we don't have as many males as females is the money. And having taught on a team with a man teacher and without a man teacher, I can promise you, discipline problems are fewer & far between when there is a man teacher of a core subject (and that even with a group of kids that I taught one year with a man on the team then the next year without...just that I saw the difference!).

Y'all have said just about everything else I feel about so I'm not going to retype it.

I have gone to school with a few (not many) men who were being certified as elementary teachers and they were so compassionate and I really hope they did well.

Now, my coach rant. It does irk my nerves that some men are hired to teach ONLY because they are coaches--this is fine if they are teaching PE (something they excel at), but the ones that get hired for core subjects and are clearly NOT cut out for the job--but they're good coaches. GRRRR!!! Too many good men teachers (and women teachers in certain fields) get passed over because they are not coaches. LOL...one male teacher that was recently hired (who I think will make an excellent history teacher)--I asked him if he would be coaching anything. He said, I guess basketball, because that's what they put...lol. They didn't even consult him or talk about this in his interview, apparently. He is on the football staff, too.

This is one of those things that makes me really angry, this bias against men in general and the presumption that all men are perverts and pigs simply because they are men.
