My 12 yr old dd is very skinny and small, and over the summer she's gotten a bit more leeway in what she's been allowed to wear. Now that she's convinced me to buy her some tiny padded bras :) she's wearing tight tank tops and t-shirts with long denim shorts. She will NOT be wearing these tanks to school. I bought a full length mirror and she'll be subjected to belly, butt crack and 'too tight' inspections every morning before school!

She actually enjoys wearing skirts and t-shirts. She's not really a fad follower and likes to dress a bit flamboyant! We like Target, occasionally we'll hit the department stores for basics!

Around the house, our main issue is NOT flopping around in only a long t-shirt and panties...I have a 15 year old son here too! So she has to put on shorts too!

Jordyn is very much a jeans and t-shirt girl. She likes her jeans baggier, if she has to unbutton/unzip them to pull them over her hips, they are too tight. She's not big into what's in style, she likes what she likes and that's about it. That will most likely change a bit as she enters middle school this year. She has tons of gymnastics attire that she also lives in.

She likes to shop at Old Navy, Target, and Aeropostale (the monkey t-shirts). Right now we have't talked much about dress code, I don't want her wearing short shirts that show the belly, other than that, not really sure right now. I think we kind of take things as they come at us, but since she is so laid back with her dress we haven't had anything to address yet.

My dress code is pretty basic. Nothing sleazy. LOL But she's not interested in that. She wears shorts and T-shirts. In winter, pants and T-shirts. She has no interest in mini-skirts (can't wear them to school anyway because of gym every day), belly tops (she's always pulling her shirts down), or high heels. Well, she likes high hells but she's well aware of how useless they are for real life as a kid.

She likes fuzzy sweaters and sparkly tops and jeans with appliques on them. But that's about the extent of it for her. I am going to see if we can steer her way from T-shirts abit with our shopping this year and into more blouses/tops. We'll see what we find. She's a pretty basic casual kid and not hard to shop for. She really could care what she wears most days and I just toss something on the bed for her and she puts it on, no questions asked.

My tween son prefers shorts and t shirts when going out, for home he often wears flannel pj bottoms or basketball type shorts and a tshirt.

My boys are both into t-shirts and long basketball shorts. My oldest Ds (12) hates anytype of t-shirts with sayings on it. My younger Ds (9) will still wear some of those "cute saying" shirts-nothing rude, suggestive, etc. They do not like the look of stores like Aero, AE, Old Navy, etc. THey like to shop at Footlocker, Finishline and I go to Kohl's for less expensive Nike clothes that they like. I don't have any rules really as I haven't seen a need with what my boys wear. I guess the only thing is that they love jerseys but there are a few players that I will not let them have jerseys for: AI, Kobe, and a couple others that I am drawing a blank on.

Our rules are no "booty" shorts and no "Daddy doesn't love me" shirts. Basically this means we don't allow anything too short, tight or low-cut. DD is actually very preppy in her style of dress--polo shirts, plaid skirts, khakis, nice jeans, etc--and usually that stuff is pretty modest. She likes to shop at the Gap and Old Navy. She also loves Claire's for earrings and hair things. It's getting pricey to shop for her though because she's now wearing adult/junior sizes.

DD still prefers comfort to style but we're starting to see more fads creeping into her wardrobe.
So far, our rules are pretty basic: nothing that shows off skin of belly/backside/breasts. I'm sure the rules will adapt as her fashion sense changes.

She's growing so fast that most shirts are too short! Her school has limits on how short the hemlines of shorts/skirts can be and no flip-flops or beach shoes, no pajama bottoms or slippers and no bare midriffs.

I don't have dress rules or a family dress code, as it's not necessary. Both kids are into pretty basic clothes that are not driven to extremes. My son wears jeans (long pants or shorts) and t's, sometimes with an open long or short sleeve plaid shirt worn as a jacket. My daughter wears jeans, a variety of style tops (v-neck, turtleneck, T-shirt style, etc) and frequently wears cropped vests/jackets. Dd will also frequently wear casual summer skirts (gauzy material, denim or similar) with casual tops. My daughter will take one part of a fashion trend/style that she likes and bend it into her individual look and she LOVES jewelry and accessories :).

Both kids are aware of fashion trends (and of local fashion trends, which vary considerably among the different groups of kids).

I bought my dd a few of those padded bras this summer. I inspect her wardrobe as well. I can't see bra straps, undies or the like
