Question of The Week...
Do you reward for grades?
Why or why not?
If you do--what kind of rewards do you give?

Trust me. I'm not offended. I appreciate a good discussion.
< post if I recall
OK Stacy,
Nice meeting and chatting with you.
By the way My husband and I do not give monetary value, and my son does not do things to find out"what is in it for him".

I personally don't see the point.
Interesting Question!!
Wow...
It also makes for interesting reading. LOL...
As someone said.. you tend to do what you grew up with... and then some!
We have never given rewards for grades... we have explained that we go to "work" that is our jobs... our dd goes to "school" that is her JOB... and the better she does in school, when it comes down to 2 people interviewing for the same job/college/career... the one with the best school record/resume wins! and out dd understands this concept.
We also live not to far from a very affluent area where she sees what professional people make/have/live in...
We have always lived with... good kids get rewards... bad gets punished.... as a motto..
So, if she really wants something... like ice skates... we will hold off to buy them and then use the "high honor roll" as as "excuse"...(we would probably buy them anyway .. if you get what i mean)
She has always understood that things like Soccer and play dates will go away IF her marks go down in any way.
I truly believe each person needs to have pride and an intrinsic value in all that we do...
do i get paid to clean the kitchen?? or do i just want a nice looking neat clean kitchen for it's own sake...
The same for her room, her chores, and her school work...
But if my child was doing poorly.. i would try to motivate them in some way...
But i do not believe i would pay them for grades at all... jmo.

My Mom rewards the kids with money for good grades. Only because I can't afford it. I have raised my kids from the get go that school is very important, and grades reflect how they are doing in school and how it will effect them later in life. They should want good grades for themselves not for money or presents. When grades come out though we usually just go to ice cream.
