We don't do Santa in the sense of the Man in the red suit type of thing.
Aly hasn't shown any sign of not believing, but I think she's smarter than that. But I'll play along as long as she does.
I still believe in Santa and even before Aly was born, Santa filled our stockings! So, Santa will always come to our house.
I've also told her all her life that parents send money to Santa, that's why some kids get more than others.
I was raised Jewish and without Christmas or Santa, but I LOVE both.
Aww.... It really CAN be traumatic for a kid!! I remember sitting in the lunch room in 3rd grade when my friend Erin told me she found all her Santa presents underneath her parents' bed. I felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach, but I was not ready to accept the truth, so I allowed myself to believe for another year.
My baby brother remembers to this day where we were and what I said to him when I spilled the beans about Santa to him. I don't remember doing this at all, but it has clearly stuck with him!
Mitch (12-yo) gave up Santa about 2 years ago. It was traumatic at the time. He cried. I think it was the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny that were the first to go. He has been very good about not telling his little brother (yet). My almost-8-yo has absolutely no doubts whatsoever that Santa is real. I love it! But I am also not being as careful as I used to be to cover my tracks; I think it would be healthy for him to start questioning it a bit so he doesn't receive a traumatic shock someday!
I know I wrote about this somewhere -- but my friend's 7th grade daughter still believed, until she was at a big sleepover party and was talking about Santa coming, and was teased mercilessly. She had to call her parents in tears to come pick her up, and not only was she embarrassed and shocked to find out there was no Santa, she was really, really angry at them for putting her into that position by allowing her to believe for so long.
*I* still believe in Santa!
