No, Kurt doesn't have to do school work in the summer. he reads on his own. I don't have to make him, although I strongly suggest that he not read the same favorite books over and over, which he often does.

No studying here. Its summer, school is over. And to be honest she is usually bored silly the first 2 months of school when all they do is review. What a wasted time IMO. Maybe it will be different in Grade 8. But holidays are holidays. I don't work on vacation to keep up to date, I'm off then I'm off, figure the same for her.

Would like daughter to her French -- library in town has little kids books -- too easy ; the adult range books are too hard. Does any one know of a site? Or a

Dd always reads so reading isn't anything I require her to do. I do however require 1 math sheet a day, practice problems, muliplication & division, word problems. I also get the book Wordly Wise for the grade level she's going into & she does a lesson a week. I buy it off Amazon. Every teacher she's ever had always remarks on how well her vocabulary is & her understanding the proper usage of words. Thats what wordly wise does for her.

She's taking her flute lessons just for July & then nothing in August. She also goes to summer theatre camp for the next 4 weeks. Then nothing for 3 weks & then school starts.

Our schools send home a summer math/reading packet so other than completing that I don't require them to do anything. Rach is a good reader while Jamie I may have to prod to read but I don't have any other structured activities. I figure they have that all the time during school so they should be able to relax a little during summer.

Wordly Wise is a GREAT choice!!! At Megan's school the advanced spellers do their regular spelling words and a unit in the Wordly Wise book for either the next grade or two grades up (not sure which one). They do the work at home and meet with the gifted teacher once/week to review the unit and take the test. The reading comprehension and questions are pretty challenging in our experience. Evan did the same thing that Megan is doing through 4th grade.

What do you use for math?

I love the Wordly Wise & Nik enjoys doing it to. For math I printed out some muliplication & division sheets ogg the puter & the guidance C from the middle school told dh to come pick up next yrs. book so Nik can get a jump start. She gets a B in math but its a B she really struggles for. Math has never been an easy subject for Nik. I thought it was really nice of the GC to do that w/out being asked. He told dh her state test scores are above average & can't figure out why she's only a B. math just doesn't come easy for her.

You can find just about any book you may want on ebay or at Amazon.com but for math I just google math & print out what I think will be useful.

My kids do the Summer Bridge books and reading each day (half hour for Danny and 15 minutes for Kevin). Ryan will be starting in K this year, so I am working with him on recognizing his letters and their sounds. He can count and recognize numbers up to 20 (he can really count much higher than that) and he is already doing easy addition. Danny has a reading project that is due the first day of school. He has to design a book jacket for a book he read over the summer (LOL, neither of us is artistic so I'm not much help to him in that department; the instructions say that you can use clip art, but I don't know what that is either cause I'm soooo computer illiterate). My two older ones also keep a journal. They don't have to write in it every day, but at least four times a week. I think it's a good habit to get into.

Your poor ds sounds like my dd. I call her artistically challenged. One of her teachers told her not to worry because she couldn't draw either & still drew stick people. I haven't a clue about clip art but I have an older ds who can do anything. I think their are websites you can go to & cut & paste but I'm not sure.
I like journal writing, my dd writes in hers a few times a week.
