QOTW--Our question of the week is regarding the Nationwide news of Texas teachers being allowed to carry a concealed weapon in the class room now.

I haven't read the story yet, so I can't pass judgement on the TX teachers.

I also did not read the article. But I would not want some of Gabby's teachers having a loaded weapon in the classroom too many things can happen. You have to have a cool head about you when you are dealing with guns. Some people just should not have a gun, especially if they habe a quick temper, you can not take back a bullet. That said for the most part I hink Gabby school is fairly safe. There are no guerentees. But then again there are no guerentees when I walk int a mall either.

I have no problem with people exercising their right to bear arms, but I sure as heck don't want them to bear them in school. It sounds to me as if school administrators have given up trying to make their schools less dangerous and are saying, in effect, it's every man for himself.

I am not with it and if my kids were at a school where it was legal they would be transferred out.

I think that's a recipe for disaster; there are too many scenarios where things could go wrong. It's a moot point for us since my kids are not in school, but I would much prefer police officers doing random visits then teachers having guns.

This wouldn't sit well with me.

I haven't read this article, but it's probably the same one I read this summer, which is a school whose closest police station is over a half hour away.

While I'm absolutely NOT comfortable with the idea of a teacher having a gun IN the classroom, I wouldn't be against the school hiring an armed security guard to be on campus at all times while school is in session.

I don't like the idea of it too many things can go wrong. Where do they keep their guns & can a student grab one? No offense to anyone but not all teachers have their heads on straight either, point in fact dd's teacher from last yr. She was nuts, pure & simple. I wouldn't want a gun in her hand.

I think all weapons belong out of the schools, including for teachers. its as crazy as the law in FL where emplyees can take their guns to work w/them & have them in their cars. We have enough looneys already hurting people over some stupid thing while driving.

I'm totally against guns in schools, or the workplace & defintiely cars. jmo

Our superintendent wouldn't allow a police officer in the school with a gun.

They'd be pulled so fast their heads would spin. Guns, teachers and kids are never a good mix. Too many scenarios where the offender could access the gun and that is never acceptable.
