Our Board Question of the week is about cell phones!
We have covered this before, but it has been awhile!

So does your tween/teen have a cell phone?
Remind us of how old they are!
Why or why not do they have one?
What kind of package do they have if they do have one?
What about rules and regulations?

So does your tween/teen have a cell phone?
*** No.

Remind us of how old they are!
*** He will be 13 on Oct. 23rd

Why or why not do they have one?
*** He hasn't really needed one or requested one until recently. He will probably be getting one really soon. I think that when I go back to work full-time it is going to be important for me to be able to reach him.

What kind of package do they have if they do have one?
*** na

What about rules and regulations?
*** I haven't thought about that too much. I haven't read all of the responses & it will be very valueble for me to get that info from the mom's who have tweens/teens with them.

So does your tween/teen have a cell phone? Yes

Remind us of how old they are! She is 12

Why or why not do they have one? SHe is in a million activities, I have also started working outside of the house part time. It is very valuable whenyou have to call her to let her know that you will be getting her late ecause the other kid is running late!

What kind of package do they have if they do have one? Pay as you go

What about rules and regulations? Not yet, she has been so good for the last 2years with it, she knows not to use it up, she gets $20 a month

No cell phones here yet. My boys just don't need one at the moment. I can't justify increasing our monthly plan by $10 just so they can talk on a phone. Not to mention the upfront cost of getting the phones and paying for the added lines. It will cost us almost $200 to get the boys a

My ds is 10 and doesn't have his own phone but we did get a Migo (basic, basic phone that can only call numbers you program in and emergency numbers - no text messaging) that is "the family's" and he checks it out from me when he needs it (swim practice w/carpool, days when he walks home by himself, etc.). He got it because his carpool partner doesn't have a phone and I wanted him to be able to reach me if something happened. I also wanted him to have a way to reach me if necessary when he walked home by himself. I have custody of the phone and he only gets it under certain conditions. When his sister is old enough and doing enough activities to need one, they share until he proves he needs his own. We added him to my package and it actually turned out to be cheaper because we upped the minutes/month and it was less than I paid going over my minutes.. :) We've got Verizon.

My dd who is 12 does not have a phone yet but i know she would LOVE to have one since a large majority of her friends and fellow classmates got them last year in 6th grade. If she had a phone I know she would be texting her friends and talking alot. We told her that she can have a phone when she is in ninth grade. There will definately be rules set. The phone is a privledge and if her grades are not up to par she will not have the phone or if she would go over her minutes she would have to pay for them. If she goes to any after school activities I will give her my phone to take so I can reach her. Alot of times when she goes to a movie i have her girlfriends cell # to call if I need to reach her.
