"I think it is just being polite no matter what sex or age you are."
Amen! Preach it!
I am often pleasantly suprised here how many young people hold the door for you and I always do the same for anyone coming in or out. I always say thank you as well. I think sometimes people feel they are entitled to such treatment and never acknowlege that someone did it out of the goodness of their heart. I think that especially happens with young people who feel if everyone is just going to be rude and not even acknowledge their efforts why bother. So I always make a point of saying thank you, but especially to young people who do so. I think it just reinforces in their minds that its a good thing that makes you feel good.
But then sometimes when I hear people complaining about how rude people are I think maybe I am just oblivious and only noticed the good stuff. LOL Not sure but generally I would say people here are polite.

Me too! I always say thank you. Sometimes, people make comments to us because we thank each other (dh and I) and we thank our kids. I thank them for sharing, I thank them for being honest, I thank them for making good grades....the list goes on. I too, think that thanking young people reinforce the good and shows our appreciation.
