I agrer with denise. Santa will come to my house untill my kids are gone..Very well said.I also told my son that he was once real also but we believe in ST.Nicholas..
<<<<<<<<I've heard many people say, "Santa only comes if you believe." Honestly, I think that is pretty awful.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don;t think it's awful at all, my sister still says she believes in Santa she is 57 yrs old. I was an opps baby lol And I really dont know one person not one that was angry because their parents didn't tell them there was no santa. Were they mad when they found out about the tooth fairy,or easter bunny? IMO if your THAT angry at your parents beacuse they wanted their child
New to this site. But I was sitting here thinking. OMG I have to address this topic myself this year...or maybe not.
Let me say this, I do believe in santa myself because things do happen and gifts arrive sometimes by the grace of God (single mom here). Last year cash was very tight (worse this year-can't wait)! I am not the kind of person that would ever put my name on a giving tree because I always pride myself on helping others but would never take a hand out. Anyways, $ arrived to me through what I'll call my "Santa Angel" someone I know put my name in for something and a card and envelope w/ cash in it poof was in my hands. SO BLESSED AND THANKFUL.
Ok, got side-tracked. Well, here is the skinny-it happened on Xmas eve and didn't have time to shop for my son because all I had was cash. I thought if I give him the $ he sure would know and he'd be ruined. Everything worked out but he was questioning me xmas eve--mom...are you...well you know. WE HAVE AN OPEN AND HONEST RELATIONSHIP and it pains me to think he will flip if he finds out I lied to him. But really I was not about to tell him on Xmas EVE! Can you say Therapy session in his 30's? LOL.
I think this year it will be easier to handle xmas if he knows that Santa isn't me if he isn't showered w/ gifts ($$ reasons-etc), and with being in middle school, & the talk in the hockey locker room.
I am in the minority here because we have never celebrated Santa Claus in the traditional sense in my home. From a young age we taught the kids about Saint Nicholas. We have also been "St. Nick" to people in and around our lives in need. I said that to say, I really have no advice on how to tell your son. I believed in Santa until I was about 11 years and when I found out there was no Santa I was PISSED. Hence my decision to not decieve my kids. My kids have NEVER told their friends or younger cousins who do believe that Santa doesn't exist either (FYI).
I wonder though, how old is your son? Does he honestly and truly believe or is he just going along with it for your sake? HAs he ever asked about Santa being real or not?
I too am a no BS type of person...so my kids know that I tell it them STRAIGHT no chaser (my granny's term). I really have no idea how to tell him there is no santa.
Maybe ask him what he believes about santa. Share with him about how there really WAS a santa and now parents just keep the spirit of santa alive for their children. Now that he's older, it also his responsibility to keep the spirit of santa alive by sharing and giving to those less fortunate. Throw in the true story of christmas too for good measure.
That's what I would do so that my kids can't really call me a liar. Did you do the cookies and the Santa sightings?

Glad it worked out, and he is happy!
Good job mom!
I agree that there comes a time when it feels wrong to continue the charade of Santa.
