Just curious. I guess I accidentally started a HUGE debate among friends kiddingly referring as tree killers responding to all these tree hunting FB statuses and pictures over the weekend. Hey you use terms like tree hunting and forgive the lttle Jewish girl for going there but man real tree people are so defensive. If you know me you know I am not a green freak but next year I am coming out with a Tshirt, save a tree light a menorah Tongue Out

I would prefer a real tree but since I'm a single mom it's kind of hard to even go to a tree lot and wrestle it on top of my Honda Civic and then put it in the stand.  I have one of those fake trees that's pre-lit and comes in about 4 pieces and we always have to figure out which plus go in where (because the color coded labels have fallen off) and inevitably some lights dont' light.

as far as the environment goes, let's see--to make a fake tree, you need to use plastic or whatever they are made of, so I'm sure there are some chemical kind of things involved.  Real trees are usually grown on Christmas tree farms for that purpose (there are some in Western MA that I used to drive by when going to my DD's college)--so if people decided not to buy real trees any more, then I guess those farms would just stop growing them.  Most people really don't just go into the forest and chop down a random tree.

We have had a fake tree the last few years, but I really prefer a real one. Real trees down here in Texas are not as nice as the ones in Michigan where I grew up. I can see it both ways as musiclover said. And if you figure, people are growing trees specifically to be cut down, they are still helping the environment in the long run as the trees take several years to grow and mature and work to help clean up the air during the process.

Well one friend wasn't helping her cause much when she mentioned  the tree they got at home depot last year had a bird nest. Another drove almost 2 hours to a tree farm in a gas gussling van then posted pictures as her 1 year old was stomping on baby trees. But then I saw the random guy walking down the street carrying one I assume he got from the tree stand a few blocks away and he got bonus points.

The even saddier reality that came from what was really a sarcasitic response, when it was pointed out that she wanted a real tree to remember her dead grandma who always had real, I realized my kids memories of grandparents and christmas will be a fiber optic tree. The sadier fact my FIL thinks it the coolest thing...
