School web sites

I keep reading posts about kids that deny that they have any homework. Schools are now using free web sites (freewebs, and schoolnotes) to inform parents as to homework and other happenings at school. I check my daughter's team web site at least weekly (the entire week's homework is listed). Do your schools use these web sites?

I get what you're saying. I think in general kids are more managed today than they were in days gone by. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. The danger comes when they know they don't have to stand on their two feet, but the positive is that perhaps they learn they're being watched so they better just keep up.

We have a school website and each teacher has a link to their own page where they'll list homework and schedules, pictures, philosphy, interesting links, etc. I very rarely look at it. It's my sons responsibility to get his homework done. Plus the teachers aren't always so great about updating. If he's out sick he can check on there but will usually call a friend to find out the assignment.

We also have a section with a codename and password to check their records, but I've already lost the info - lol.

I definately understand what you were trying to say. But I can see tools where they have even improved to help the kids, like when Jordyn first started having a required Agenda and had to fill it out everyday and then have me sign it every week showing what her homework was in each and class and such I thought, ugh! Now I still hate signing it and I don't necessarily see a point other than maybe that's a backup as reinforcement to make sure they fill it out. But the agenda as a tool to help them become more organized and learn how to organize their time is definately a useful tool.

Yes, my DS's teacher uses TeacherWeb. Not every teacher in the school does though. My DS isn't one to tell us he has not home work, but I tell you, it's come in handy many times. Not only do we check it regularly so we know what is going on, but my son has a habit of forgetting to write his homework in his planner, so he goes on and checks it out. We can also download worksheets, and his math book is on-line too.

Our school uses a website but only for 6th and 7th grades. The 8th graders are expected to be responsible for their schedules.

Yep, everything is posted on the calendar. No excuse for not getting homework done.
