for my ds. WARNING!!!! Brag Alert!!! My ds is a big Lemony Snicket fan. They released the last book in A Series of Unfortunate Events today (Friday the 13th - Book 13 - brilliant marketing!!!) and we went to a party at the local Barnes and Noble for some free (if you don't count the books we bought) fun. As part of the event they held an invention contest. They put out straws, string, paper clips, lemon drops, foil, and a few other little things and told the kids to make something. The kids were really creative!! Ds won second place out of about 25 entries!! He made a parachute. Picture an upside down teepee frame with foil as the chute. It was such a cool experience for him. The staff even let him drop his parachute off the second level balcony in front of the crowd to see if it worked. It flew beautifully!! It was sooo nice to see him get positive feedback from others. He's the type that tests boundaries and pays the consequences so anything that makes him feel good about himself is especially good for him. I'm soooo proud of him!! I'm most proud of something else he did though. There was another little boy about his age who thought his parachute was WAY cool so Evan built one for him too. It was really cute... once they finished building them, they had parachute races off the balcony (sanctioned of course). Ds is such a GEEK - a cute geek, but a geek!!
BTW - The winning entry was a catapult with a straw frame and a rubber band that pulled back a foil sling and released a foil ball. Very creative!! Hats off to HER!! The winner was about 13 I think - ds is barely 10.
How was everyone else's day? Anyone have any particularly bad luck?

YEAH for your son!! That is super and sounds like lots of fun. It can be amazing what a little positive reinforcement can do. Nothing bad luck happening here excep the weather is not so great, but compared to some places I'm not complaining. I'm not a big believe in bad luck.
Although today we were in the forest by a lake for a tour of an estate and we are standing around under a tree and this squirrel is just going insane. We could barely hear the guide for this squirrel freaking out. I had visions of a psycho squirrel leaping out of the tree and attacking this group of students leaving this bloody mess by the lake. Something straight out of a B-movie horror film. LOL But he finally decided to go somewhere else and complain about us.
How cool is that!!!
