She's back!

So we're back from getting Veronica from camp. She had a wonderful time and is already talking about going back. She was such a great camper, that the owner talked to me again about getting her a full scholarship for next year! It looks like it will most likely happen. There is a foundation that donates money for children to attend camp and she has been appointed a sponsor who goes to a panel and helps get their assigned child the financial backing they need. The owner of the camp told me who the sponsor would be and it's the mother of a counselor who really connected with V. I mentioned something about it to Emily (the counselor) and she was SHOCKED - she had no idea that V was the kid! LOL -she said she and her mom would make sure V was at camp every year. I'm hoping that we won't *need* a full ride every year, but not including her tuition for camp this year (close to $1000 AFTER a 75% off scholarship) she had tons of expenses with equipment plus it's an 8 hour drive there, so traveling there and back we spent a bunch too. A full ride would help oh so very much. Aside from that wonderful news, she made bunches of friends and I had so many people come up to me and tell me that she's a great kid to have around. She worked really hard on the hikes and they say she had a great attitude. She climbed a 14000 (a "fourteener") mountain in Colorado with a 20lb backpack on, spent 5 nights in a canyon in Utah, and did everything that was expected of her. Her stories are hilarious, they drank "crunchy water" - lake/stream water with twigs in it - LOL, put on funny skits, played pranks on counselors, got used to going potty in a hole in the ground, cleaned dishes by licking them - icky, etc. She had the time of her life, but is happy to be home too. She's already been e-mailing camp buddies. They all seem to be enjoying being back in civilization again. It was a little sad to take her away from there, but 'm very happy to have her back!!

Wow! Sounds like she had an awesome camp!!!!

That is a lot of money....here's hoping for the full scholarship!!!

Which mountain did she climb? My husband's best friend has climbed several 14ers and I think he proposed on one (but it might not have been a 14er). They did get married in Durango, though.

The 14er was the Handies and it's pretty close to Durango, if it's not actually in it. I know it was a struggle for her, but she loved it.
