She's legally responsible for them..can you say ABANDONMENT? She could go to jail and the kids placed with social services...the younger one anyway! Forget the dad...SHE is the one who left them alone and is continueing to do so. Are you angry enough to make tht phonecall to CPS?
Good question. I don't live there but I could likely phone and put a bug in their ear. I'm not even sure that CPS is in that small town. I never remember hearing about it growing up, but it must exist. I can only hope that their father moved home with them. Would they think the 17 year old is old enough to be guardian of the younger one? Hmmm. I'll do some research.
Edited to add that I found their website and couldn't find anything detailed but they had a section where you could contact them electronically so I very briefly outlined the situation and asked them whether it would be considered abandonment. While 17 year olds are definitely stupid :-) legally they may be considered old enough. We'll see what they tell me and if they want more info I'll give it to them.
That's such a sad situatin. I know that here DCFS is a gov't thing and they can intervene on a child's behalf no matter how small the town. So while there may not be an actual office in the town someone should step in and do something! JuneMarie
Can you report her to CPS? Not sure what it's called in Canada, but in the U.S. it's child protective services. Do you want to report this? Sounds terrible. but nothing much surprises me these days.
I sent the e-mail off to CPS outlining the situation and asking if that is something they get involved in. Gave them my contact info (didn't give all the names and stuff in the e-mail, just what was happening) and I've heard nothing back. So either they don't care or its being processed. But at least I tried.
