An age appropriate dress that Megan can wear to a bar mitzvah? She's 11, 5'2" tall, all leg, and weighs about 95 lbs. Her hips are only two inches bigger than her waist. She's a girls 14 and barely fits into a 00 in Juniors in pants. Not sure I want her wearing a dress from the Jr. Dept. anyway. Nobody has holiday dresses out yet and all the Homecoming stuff is too grown up for her. I was thinking Kohl's and Macy's. I'm hoping she can wear the dress this weekend and again to a bat mitzvah in October. My big concerns are neckline, shoulders, and length. She's got teenage taste but it's just not appropriate for her right now. *sigh*

For my girls I shop in the ladies dpt sometimes and if it has a low neck line they wear a tee under it or a pretty little undershirt.

I'm not sure what part of the country you live in , Ami, but if you have a Dillard's near you, they have lovely age appropriate dresses for girls Megan's age.

You could also try JC Penney.

I remember those bat/bar mitzvah years! Before you shop, make sure you know the synagogue rules. Many require covered shoulders, so you may need a shrug to go over the dress. We bought a couple of dresses in the jr dept at Macy's when DDH was that age. They willl have spaghetti straps and will come to just above the knees, but they won't show cleavage and with a shrug, they are modest enough. At age 11, my DD was also tall, but she did have a chest, so it wasn't always easy covering her up properly.

The first one is a family friend and the second is a friend from summer camp. Next year when she is in seventh grade it will be a bigger deal. Evan went to 15-20 of them when he was that age. I think I'll start a fund to cover clothing and gifts now!

We have to shop online, but we find things at JC Penney the most.

I don't know about foe this weekend, unless you have a store location near you, but jordyn does a lot of her shopping at maurice's. It's really cute dresses, relatively conservative IMO because the dresses aren't super short, but are cute. The last 3 or 4 things she's gotten dresses for have been from there.

Do you have a Justice near you. They used to have dresses that were not too little girly, but not too teenagerish.11 is such a hard age to dress.

Will you have to get her a new dress for all of these?Boys are easier that way.I have only been to two Bar and bat mitzvahs and Gab was never invited to one.
